I'm a relative newbie to diving, got my PADI last year and I'd like to
go to the Red Sea towards the end of April, but not sure where's the
best place to go. Which is the best place to stay Egypt, Jordan,
Israel? Don't want a package job, but would like to go somewhere
cheapish and will be flying from the UK. Shall I go to Eilat? Amman
then Aquaba? Sharm-el-Sheikh? I'd like to go somewhere for two weeks
and stay somewhere where I can get some good diving, decent nightlife
(although somewhere smallish and not too hectic would be a bonus) but
also laze on the beach if desired.
Any pointers appreciated
thanks Lindsey

We were in Sharm el-Sheikh in January. Good diving. Dunno about
nightlife and such. Guess there are places to go. The diving leaves
one pretty tired, so we didn't really feel like partyin anywhere. There
were also beaches to visit, though we didn't make much use of those
either.
Should be no problem flying from the UK.

I was in Sharm 2 times last year, and i am going there again in 32 days for
1 week liveaboard and 1 week hotel with diving off course.
I love the place, great diving, good hotels, friendly guides and excellent
food.
If you don't have a diving center contact, i have had good experience with
Ocean College in Nama bay.
The nightlife is also good in sharm, but after a few days of diving, you are
tired at night :)
Have a nice trip.

I've been in Sharm el-Sheikh in Feb.
Stayed at Coral Beach Tiran in Sharks Bay. Nice hotel, little of the
town, so if you like peace, it is recommendable.
I dove with SeaMax, tel: +20-69-66-33-22
The owner is Wolfgang Herm, wolfgangharm@aol.com
I dove with his DM - Sameh Morsi (Egiptian) samehmorsi@hotmail.com
Fine guy. Goor dives.
Recommend to visit Tiran and especially Ras Mohamed (can go many times -
there are really a lot of nice places).
If you decide to dive with them, give best regards to Sameh and Wolfgang
from crasy guy diving deep with Draco ;) (if they not recall me by name

If you prefer a little more rustical... go to Dahab. Canyon, Blue Hole
are famous. I have to come back there.

Try those:
1. Hurghada - the most popular, most crowdy and most damaged reef.
2. Sharm El Sheikh - much better, but getting crowdy as well. Lot's of
Russians. Good dives: Tiran Islands, Ras Mohammad, Thistlegorm (wreck) -
outstanding!
3. Safaga - small town, great dives - but not more than 5-6 days. Good
dives: Salem Express - wreck, Panorama Reef, Tobya Arbaa - no nightlife
(except local ;-) )
4. Dahab - great dives in Blue Hole, Canyon, Bells, Eel Garden, cheaper
place, nice - all shore dives, so the wind does not matter - good in
winters.
5. Marsa alam or El Quseir - great shore dives, the hottest place (south),
lots of great divesites - but you moslty stay at hotel - no clubs, no
restaurants - just a desert :-)
My best places: 5, 3
But if you're going for the first time: any place will be great :-)
Later try a liveaboard - Deep South, or Brother Islands.
Best,
Filip
