Computer bought in US vs EU

I'm just about to buy an Uwatec Smart Pro and found that I can save
35% by purchasing the computer via the net in the US and then have it
shipped.

My question is if there is any difference when buying a US model or
European model (ft vs meters etc)?

Any advise is appreciated.

Most products sold for use in the U.S. are in imperial units, feet instead
of meters, psi instead of bar.  On the other hand, there are products
available in your choice of units and those that can be changed by the user.
If this is the issue you're most concerned about, check with the seller.

There are other things to keep an eye out for.  Product liability laws vary
from one country to the next.  Warrantee provisions tend to match the
liability laws of the intended market for a product.  Some products designed
for non U.S. markets can not be serviced in the U.S.  The reverse may well
be true.  I very much doubt that a computer is one of them, but it's worth
checking.  Also check on your country's tax laws.  You may run into import
duties, value added taxes, shipping and insurance costs that make the U.S.
purchase more expensive than it appears on the surface.

Most computers, give you the option in the set up menus - hope yours
does too!

Hi Kristian

Regarding Uwatec DC & units, I can give yuo the following adivce:
With the older (non Smart) DCs you can only change the the units via an
interface (Memo Mouse $$$ or a selfmade cable) using Uwatec's free software.
On the Smart DCs the can units can be changed using the newer version of
Uwatec's SW and a normal IR-interface.

Hope this info is of help to you.

I own SMARTS as well as older models.
I have no idea if the EU model is any different. I seriously doubt it.
The economic reality of producing different software for something as
silly as EU or US makes it unlikely, but as long as you have morons like
Monti in charge of your affairs, anything is possible.

I can tell you that I can set my SMART computer to metric or imperial
using the smarttrack software. The setting changes include at least
temp/pressure/distance. In addition, regardless of my SMART display
settings, the smarttrak software will display in metric or imperial
again, for temperature, pressure and distance.

I can also tell you that the interface is IR, not 2 wire serial, so
you don't need any special devices other than a modern computer to
change the SMART settings.

Interesting.  That leads to a bunch of questions:
Does it download the same way?
If so, is this a computer you dive with regularly?
Do you know how the algorithm compares to my Oceanic/Gensis hockey pucks?
If it downloads and is not overly conservative whether I like it or not,
remind me to take a look at it next time we share a boat.

You know where to find me most Saturdays. You might want to look down the
dock if you don't see where you expect.

Soon.  Last weekend was the Lady's fishing tournament.  Jayna and I took
another couple.  The other lady caught a 4 lb Dolphin, hardly worth keeping,
but it turned out to be one of only two that were caught.  It will take
second place in the tournament and the calcutta.  Should be worth a few
hundred bucks to the lady that caught it.  It won me a couple of side bets.
Not bad for catching one, four pound fish.

This weekend is the men's tournament and the weekend after is the awards
dinner.  Since Jayna ran the lady's tournament this year, she's got to be
there.  I've been drafted to assist.

That's all very sad. Last weekend, we were diving both days, as we were the
weekend before, and will be this weekend. The weekend after this, there is
no awards dinner and nobody has to attend, so we won't have to blow off
a bad meal or a hangover to go diving.

So sorry to hear that your life is mess. Perhaps it will get better.

safe diving (or whatever),

In about 30 seconds I went to their site, looked up the info on the Smart
Pro, and found "User switchable metric/imperial"

So, to answer your quesiton, no there's no difference.

The US manual will probably be full of warnings about not doing
decompression diving. Apparently it's really dangerous.  Personally I'd
much rather have an Apeks Quantum. It's a lot cheaper and does a lot more.

They are all the same.
They sell PSI computers, you can change it back to BAR with the
software.
Make sure you use an authorised dealer and obtain a warranty
