Guys, let's share our experience of dealing with online scuba shops as
well as scuba stuff sellers on Ebay.
My only experience with online shop was with Leisurepro.
I would give them 4 of 5 for service and 5 out of 5 for selection.
I spent close to $1000 in this shop and have very nice product and
pleasent experience. Return policy standart - if it's not used and you
pay for shipping.
Now waiting for order from www.diversdirect.com, will let you know how
it went.
Ebay retailer scubadiscount is very discent too.
Bought knife from him, nice product, fast delivery.
Anyone else. Want to hear about bad experience, to stay away from those
shops.

Maybe your great experience with LeisurePro explains why the lion's share of
my first conversation with my LDS proprietor was spend being informed how
awful they are, and how they'll rip me off, and sell me goods that don't
comply with US standards, and are warrantied, etc. Don't get me wrong --
I'd prefer to use a local shop if the quality-adjust price/ service-price
mix is remotely competitive. But just because I'm relatively new to this
sport, don't treat me like a rube!

Hmm, my LDS told me the opposite.
They said that there were good online retailers and that for some
things it made sense to buy online.
They then told me why there were advantages to purchasing the major
components from the LDS, such as warranties, support, discounts,
freebies, etc. By the time they got done the package for the
computer/regulator/BC was within 10% of the online prices I was
finding and the other issues made it reasonable to buy from the LDS.
Since I bought several Scubapro components the warranty was an issue.
I guess it depends on the dive shop. The hard sell/ scare tactics
would annoy me too.

Liesure Pro, Divers Discount and Divers Wholesale all sell brand new gear
that is identical tothe same gear bought anywhere. It comes with the
manufacturer's warranty just like stuff bought anywhere. They sell for less
but they sell enormous quantities. Divers Discount (scuba.com) has a
legitimate regulator repair service that is excellent. In America we have
the right to compete. There is no law prohibiting anyone from selling his
inventory of product for a lower price. Just because a shop sell stuuf
discounted doesn't mean the goods are not quality. P.
