My regulator has a din valve with 8 threads and I just got a tank that
has a din valve on it with 5 threads.  Can I use these together? The regulator
doesn't screw in all the way. In other words some threads are still visible
when its in.
                                              Thanks,
                                                          Joe

No problem. Your reg will fit on a 300 bar tank, but will work fine on a
200 tank.

Threads are made this way so you can't use a 200 reg on a 300 bar tank,
that's all.

It's fine.

The 5-thread DIN is a 200bar DIN, and the 7-thread is 300bar.

You can't run a 200bar regulator on a 300bar tank valve.

That used to be the case in the U.S.  It's not any more.  The 5 thread valve
is now used on PST tanks with a working pressure around 232 bar which, I
believe, is what they were originally designed for anyway.

You can use them safely.  The long connector on your regulator is designed
for use with higher pressure tanks, normally 300 bar.  The shallower valve
is designed for lower pressures, usually, 232 bar or less.  There's no
problem using the higher pressure regulator with the lower pressure tank and
valve.  Because it won't seal, you can't use the lower pressure regulator
with a higher pressure valve.

Yup, sure can, the 8 thread is so the reg can be used on 300 bar, but the
valve on the tank is around the 232 bar rating, hence 5 threads.
