All right from some of my reading i can tell there are some big
Halcyon fans out there.  I am wondering about the Dive Rite
Transplate.  I appears to be more comforatble than anything Halcyon
has to offer.  I would like to stick with all Halcyon (my local shop
carries it and would like to stay loyal) unless someone knows of
something Halcyon dosen't display or has a bit of good advice.  If the
Dive rite Transplate is a good call is it usable with Halcyon wings
(I'm gussing so, i justwanna check)

I have no idea what the transplate is, it helps to include a URL with
inquiries.

Unless you dive shirtless, just about every one I know has no problem with
backplate comfort.

I dive shirtless, and you get used to it.

Never, ever, sacrifice in-water utility for out-of-water comfort.

It's a plate and harness system, somewhat more complex than the Halcyon
harness, but fairly similar.  I'm not sure what there is about it that
"appears" to be more comfortable about it.  Comfort is somthing that tends
to require actually trying things to determine.  If you think you might like
it better, give it a try.  Nothing ventured, nothing gained.

Loyalty is not a particularly good reason to choose one equipment line over
another unless price and performance are comparable.  Go with what works for
you.

Probably, but don't let the name Halcyon deter you from shopping for wings
too.  Two of my three wings are Halcyon.  The third is Oxycheq and Dive Rite
makes them as well.

I have three new Oxycheq wings on the way. :-)

Redundancy is the key to safe diving.

 It's nice to have spares.

Risk assessment and planning are the keys to safe diving.  Redundancy may be
part of the planning.

Popeye, which Oxycheq wings did you order?

What will you use this setup for?  It's probably too much for warm water and
too little for cold water.  The cost of $680 is then too high.  But, of
course, if you have a suitable use for the gear the price may be in line.
It's hard to find deep discount on Halcyon gear even on eBay.

I use a similar setup (backplate isn't Halcyon) in warm and cold water,
with a single LP 95. In cold water with a drysuit, in luke-cold water
with a 7mm wetsuit, and in warm water with a 5mm wetsuit. Works fine in
all three cases.

I have no idea if its possible to do better on price these days. I've
had this rig for a long time, and it cost a lot less when I set it up.

In warm water I use between 8 and 12 pounds of lead and a 16# Oxycheq wing.
That and an aluminum plate are compact and relatively light for travel.  The
30# wing is somewhat bulkier and heavier.  In cold water, with a drysuit, SS
backplate, and steel 95, I'll use between 22 and 44 pounds of lead depending
on the amount of insulation.  While the 30# wing could serve for the low end
of the range, in cold water it would sink like a stone in most situations.
While I don't use the wing for floatation in cold water, it would be nice to
know it would work if the need arose.  I use a 65# (I think) Halcyon wing in
cold water, although a unit somewhat smaller may be equally suitable.  If
you get by with 30 that's great.  I could also get by with the 30 without
any noticeable difference - unless something unexpected occurred.

I have a back plate system I'm not using, with the Pioneer wing, I'd sell for much
less.
