I want to get a new computer to replace my current air only computer. I want
it to be nitrox capable and possibly air integrated. I prefer to have it on
my wrist vs. on the console.
I've looked all over the internet for reviews and have found very few that
offer reasonable opinions that go much beyond the manufacturer's blurb.
Anyone got any opinions of what to buy or stay away from?
I like the Suunto D-9 but don't like the fact I can't change batteries. The
TUSA 800 also is appealing.
Ideas, comments?

I dove with a fellow last month who said his D9 goes over 200 dives
before it needs battery replacement, if that helps at all. I recently
got one and am very happy with it so far. It's a bit more conservative
than my previous (sherwood logic) but I found if you set it for deep
stops it turns about the same.

The manual says they "recommend" that you take it to Suunto dealer, it
doesn't have to go back to the factory. Just a guess but I bet you can DIY
if you want to, but if it floods it's your problem. Suunto's other computers
with user replaceable batteries may have the same recommendation, I didn't
read any of their other manuals. If it can be replaced by any dealer that
tells me it can be replaced by anyone with a little savvy and the right
information, but at your own risk. Some computers have to go back to the
manufacturer in order to have the battery changed. I have changed the
batteries in two of my Suunto computers with no problems.

I opted for a Aeris Atmos 2 but then I needed big numbers because I'm
age challenged. Jim

I'm with you there! The Cobra is great when you can see it but for the older
generation Suunto missed the boat. The new Suunto "Cobra 2" (due out in
March) has a display which is aimed at our age group, plus other features.
I'll be trying it out as soon as it's available.

I have a Aeris 750gt that was i had serviced at teh factory I no longer
need. I replaced it with a Vytec (took to long to get back and had a
trip to do). It's wrist mount, air integrated, nitrox compatible and
one of the nicer things i miss on my vytec the transmitter and the
receiver have a set code (vytec changes with each dive tank). I had the
transmitter upgraded to teh new elite model and the reciever only has 1
pool dive to make sure it all worked well. It is also downloadable.
Not new I know but much cheaper than the D9 also and knowing more
options is always a good thing.

Can't beat a Dive Rite Nitek. But they've been discontinued now and don't
know what the next one will be like.
