Greetings all,
I'm finally thinking of taking the plunge for a dry suit, due to my size it
will need to be custom made 5'8" 215 Lbs 18 inch neck 38 inch waist 46 inch
chest (only included that in case any one knows of a dry suit mfr that might
make one that would fit out of the box) otherwise I'm looking at the DUI
CLX450 or the Bare Trilam HD Tech Dry. Anyone have an opinion on either one
of these suits? Most of my diving is done in the North East U.S..

        Thanks,

I have a CLX and love it. It is very tough, not too heavy, dries fast and
gives me ample movement freedom.
I am pretty sure that Bare does not make custom suits.

I too have a 450 and am also a NE diver. I've had my suit for several
years now, several years of climbing into a crawling over wrecks. I love
the suit. It is tough and durable yet flexible and sunstantially lighter
than say a CF200. The other advatage is that it dries quickly. If I had
to but another suit today, it would be another CLX459.

I've had a CLX450 for 4 years and I like the rugged suit material,
quality and fit.

Last I heard, DUI does a "Special Production" rather than a true custom
fit, so you would be wise to check with them about HOW they would
accomodate your proportions, especially the torso. The concern would be
if they are combining a stock XL torso with a stock L legs section. I'd
want to know that the torso section and legs sections were shortened to
fit you.

Here's the link to their sizing chart. Have someone carefully measure
you before calling.

If you're going to be diving in the winter in the Northeast, like I do,
you may find you want more than the typical amount of insulation (35-50
degrees F. is a pretty wide range to accomodate with one set of
undergarments as they try to do).

Any extra insulation you add will affect fit, of course, and that's
worth discussing with the techs at DUI to make sure any "Special
Production" suit takes that into account. Their typical standard sizing
tries to minimize excess material to reduce drag, I assume, and that
can make for a close fitting suit even with standard insulation. That's
a good thing until you try adding more insulation and find your range
of motion is reduced.

You're going to love diving dry and warm. I was in 48 degree water
yesterday for over 3 hours and was still toasty and completely
comfortable. No exaggeration. Feel free to contact me by email. I'd be
happy to provide any info I can. Email address in sig line below.

Seems like everyone agrees that the computer is the way to go and with
the price of the "basic efficient', according tho the reviews in Scuba
diver mag, Sherwood Profile down to less than 300 bucks I'm going for it.
As long as I keep within the safety zone I shouldn't have any problem.
Thanks,
Harlan

Just my .02

I dive (and teach)  in CT and RI mostly, I used to own a DUI CF200 which was
a nice suit.  I ended up selling it and decided to go with an Andy's because
of the service problems with DUI and people in this group spoke highly of
them.  They have standard and custom sized suits.  I'm extremely happy with
it.
