I am a newly qualified OW diver looking to get my first computer.
Looking at computers on the market I have been eyeing up the Suunto
Mosquito.  It has all the functions of the Vyper but in a package that
i can wear on a more day to day basis in between dives.  My only
concern is that of being able to read the display.  Has anyone used
this computer and can they let me know of how it performs and how they
have found the display to read whilst diving?

Here's a Mosquito dive computer for sale...and no, it's not on eBay:

My wife uses one (mostly because her wrists are too small for the
vyper).  The display is a bit smalish, but not a problem.  Just in case
though, it comes with a small "magnifying lens" you can strap on to
slightly increase the size of the digits on display (albeit at a cost of
not seeing the saturation bars at the sides so well).

If you want something similar in a "watch" packge, then you might
also look at the Suunto Singer.  But its more expensive.

For about $40 US you can buy a Casio G Shock watch that you can take on the boat (or
even on the dive with you) and get a Vyper and not have to compromise on seeing the
digits.

I've had the Mosquito for about two years now; I like it for a number
of reasons:

1.  The algorithm that Suunto uses is conservative (a plus for some, a
drawback for others... it's up to you.)
2.  It's a wrist mount, fairly small as you said.  I don't wear it on a
day-to-day basis between dives, though.
3.  The numbers are smaller than on other computers, but it's the only
computer I've owned, so I'm used to it.  I don't have a problem seeing
the numbers, and the user interface is designed pretty well so you can
quickly interpret the data you're seeing.
4.  I use the dive manager software to transfer dive data to my PC; it
helps to keep an electronic logbook as well as the written one.
5.  The owner can change the battery.  I did that a month or so ago;
got a new battery cover and O-ring at the same time as recommended.

Hope this helps,
Matt

I think the Suunto Mosquito looks cool and seems to have all the
functions albiet small display HOWEVER I don't trust Suunto on their
computers.  First they have known problems:
http://www.suuntoservice.com/safetynotice/diving/
and second they have known problems they don't speak of such as a
freezing problem of their Cobra computers.   I know because mine, S/N
527334 froze at 85ft on me.   no buttons worked and even when I
removed it from the regulator, it still showed the pressure of over
2500PSI.   I returned it to my dive shop who informed me they had at
least one more returned for the same reason.   It's been at the shop
months now and I finally found out because I didn't provide my sales
receipt, they didn't do a thing despite the fact that by the S/N they
know it's less than a year old plus the unsafe condition of the
device, you'd think they would have done something.   Additiionally
there is nothing on their website about this problem.   Of course no
one asked me about my safety either so apparently Suunto isn't
concerned with your safety or the safety of their dive computers nor
are they willing to share their safety issues online.  I would never
even consider buying another Suunto dive computer.   Suunto used to
make great oil filled compasses but my suggestion is not to trust them
with your safety using their dive computers.    I have two Oceanic
dive computers also, one VEO 250 and one PRO and have never had a
problem with them.

So how many times are you going to post the same thing?

Sorry you had a bad experience with your Suunto product, and we all
understand that you'd never buy another one.  Sounds like your problem
is more with your dive shop than the manufacturer.

BTW I have a Suunto Mosquito (as does my wife) and I've never had a
thing go wrong with it and we're both very happy with them.  Go
figure...

So what does this have to do with the Mosquito?
You reference the website warning for the D6 and D9.
Then you talk about a Cobra problem. I have a Mosquito and have had no
problems.

I think your problem is that you have head-in a.s disease.
