Guys,

I have just been given a Nikonos V setup, including the above
strobe............can I use modern nikel metal hydride batteries, or do
I need to stick witht the older, lower capacity ni-cad ones, as per the
manual.

I am aware from various postings that gas build up can be an issue in
these older strobes??

What do most people think?

Many Thanks

David

I never had a problem with the NiMH - well faster recycle time but
that's not a problem ;) there is a 'upgraded' battery door that was
available for the YS50 as a freebee - check the S&S web site for serial
numbers needing the upgrade.

I use NiMH batteries in that strobe all the time. Just like any battery
do not store it in the strobe when you are not using it. The amount of
time that the batts will be in there, typically a couple of hours, will
result in negible gas build up.

Thanks Guys,

I read a note on the S&S website, seemed to not mention the ys50, but
did mention the Ys60 and suggest 2000mha batteries as the max power
recommended - I have also emailed them.

Your thoughts are enought to satisfy me though, I will get ordering
some batteries and a charger

Thank a lot.

I've been using 2300mAh NiMh batteries in a YS90dx TTL Duo for a few years
with no problems. This is exactly the same casing as the YS50 (which I also
have one) and the YS60, except that the YS90 has a detachable sync cord.

Apart from Sea&Sea themselves 9or their local distributor) servicing can
also be carried out by a local authorised repair centre.

I had my YS50TTL serviced in the UK by Luton Camera Repairs.
