Hi, I've recently been thinking about getting back into SCUBA (was
certified with NAUI up to rescue several years ago, but had to stop
for a while because of moving inland for a while). However, my budget
is kind of limited, and I was hoping for some advice on some
inexpensive but solid quality equipment. The only thing I have
remaining from my old gear is my dive knife, so I'm going to need:

Mask & snorkel
Fins
Regulator & gauges
Tank
B.C.
Boots
Weights
Wetsuit

I took a trip down to my local sporting goods store and did a quick
pricing on some items, and figured the total cost would probably end
up around $1400-1500 for low to mid-range equipment, which seems a tad
pricey. Now, I've no idea what the "good" brands are (I just used all
U.S. Diver stuff when I was getting certified), and I don't much
care... I'm hoping you guys can give me some tips on inexpensive
brands that have good, solid products... also possibly some places to
get these at a good price ;) Thanks!

A - Mail order and Internet retailers are perfectly acceptable
B - nothing wrong with used gear
C - SoCal is a big place - care to narrow down the region a bit?
